Churchill in 1922 was delighted to discover Chartwell, virtually on Kent’s western boundary. The tranquillity of the place captivated him. Looking out over the Weald of Kent. He said, “I bought Chartwell for that view.” The bonus was that the view was also within 25 miles of the House of Commons and the War Rooms.

Visit Leeds Castle to the east of the village of Leeds near Maidstone. A castle has existed on the site since 1119, It is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len. The present castle dates is in the Tudor style and was completed in 1823. The grounds include a maze with an exit through a shell grotto. There is a golf course and a museum of dog collars! There are two castle-themed children’s play areas.

Hever Castle is a tourist attraction, with its mazes, gardens and lake plus links to Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. Located near Edenbridge, 30 miles (48 km) south-east of London. It was built in the 13th century as a country house. From 1462 to 1539, it was the seat of the Boleyn family. The grounds include a lake, a yew maze and a water maze. There is a tower maze in the children’s adventure playground. The castle gardens contain a wide range of features, including an Italianate garden with Fernery, rose gardens, herb garden, and topiary.
