From Buckingham House to Clyvedon Castle

Castle Howard

Clyvedon Castle is the fictional country home of the Duke and Duchess of Hastings, to which they retreat mid-season for their honeymoon.

The outside of Clyvedon Castle is actually Castle Howard, an 18th-century architectural hodgepodge about 200 miles north of London near York. The splendid gardens are accessible for strolls as well.

Wilton House

Wilton House, near Salisbury, the seat of the Earls of Pembroke, supplied many of the interiors. The portrait hall, hallway, and entrance hall all make appearances on screen. The exterior and some sections of the residence of the Duke of Hastings, like the Gothic revival cloisters, are also from Wilton House.

The splendid Palladian bridge and the monumental trees on the estate also appear in several scenes. Wilton House and gardens, are normally open to the public.

Wilton House also featured in nearly every episode of The Crown, starring as Buckingham Palace.

Netflix announced that Regé-Jean Page’s character, the Duke of Hastings, will not appear in the show’s upcoming episodes. In real life, there has never been a Duke of Hastings. However, there used to be a Baron Hastings.
