Introducing Goodwood
Goodwood House and grounds is the location of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Goodwood Circuit motorsport track hosts the annual Goodwood Revival, and the airfield has a Flying School. Goodwood Racecourse hosts “Glorious Goodwood” and a number of other race meetings. The estate includes two golf courses and a cricket pitch, and is home to Goodwood Cricket Club, a hotel and an organic farm. The headquarters of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is on the estate.
Goodwood History
The hillclimb course located at Goodwood House was first used in 1936. The racing circuit began life as the perimeter track of RAF Westhampnett airfield, which was constructed during World War II. The first race meeting took place on 18 September 1948, organised by the Junior Car Club and sanctioned by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon.
The circuit was where both Mike Hawthorn and Graham Hill had their first single seat races. It was also where Stirling Moss ended his international career after his accident at St. Mary’s during the Glover Trophy on Monday 23 April..

Glorious Goodwood
Qatar Goodwood Festival, 30 July β 3 August 2024
Goodwood hosts the annual Glorious Goodwood meeting in late July and early August, which is one of the highlights of the British flat racing calendar. It is home to 3 of the UK’s 36 annual Group 1 flat races, the Sussex Stakes, the Goodwood Cup and the Nassau Stakes. Although the race meeting has become known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’, it is sponsored by Qatar and officially called the ‘Qatar Goodwood Festival’.
βIt’s like walking back perfectly into a black-and-white photo, except it’s in colour and 3D. It’s amazing.β
